Kostelec Y-DNA Genealogy Project

The purpose of the Kostelec DNA project is to expand our genealogy research by confirming or disproving family lines through DNA testing. Many variations of the surname are in use today in both the US and Slovenia including, but not limited to: Kastelic, Kastello, Kostelle, Kastelitz, and Kostelc. The DNA markers tested in this project are limited to 12, 25, or 37 specific markers on the Y chromosome that are passed from father to son only. If you are a female interested in joining this project please try to enlist the participation of your father, brother, uncle or male cousin who is a Kostelec.

Family Tree DNA is the testing company being used for this project. . Most of your questions concerning DNA testing for genealogy purposes can be answered at that site or by contacting me.

If you are interested in joining our group please go the Kostelec Surname Project to register and order your kit. Please be prepared to submit a geneology report starting with your earliest known Kostelec ancestor. Without geneological research, DNA test results have little relevance. But don't let this requirement keep you from being tested. The report does not have to be generated with special software. A simple narrative will do. This project is not limited to Kostelecs in North America; all Kostelecs are invited to join. The more Kostelecs that participate the better everyone's chance will be to make a match or break down that brick wall.
