Perhaps the most famous Carter, Robert of Corotoman, Virginia, was the youngest son of Colonel John Carter. Robert was born in 1663 and became one of the richest men in the colonies. At his death in 1732 he owned over 300,000 acres of land, 1,000 slaves and 10,000 pounds in cash.

"The house was built in 1832 by Benjamin Tasker Chinn, a fourth generation
descendant of Robert "King" Carter. It is located 2 miles south of the Manassas

of Robert "King" Carter of Virginia, 1701-1732 This site includes transcriptions of Robert's
diaries, correspondence and papers. This is an ongoing project and is supported by the
University of Virginia Library Faculty Research Committee.
